Educational tours to Greece & Turkey and the Greek islands, led by a retired Classics professor who's been doing this for over 25 years.
Greek and Turkish tours alike go to all
the famous places as well as mountain villages, unspoiled islands, and destinations off the usual tourist routes.

Sporades Tours are educational trips to Greece, the Greek islands, and Turkey that are completely different from other tours.
My name is Dick Caldwell, a retired university professor who has written many books and
articles about the history, literature, and mythology of the ancient Mediterranean and has been doing these tours for 27 years.
Emphasis is on small groups that are educational but fun, giving equal time to the ancient and modern aspects of Greece and Turkey, going to as many out-of-the-way places as those more famous (because places off the beaten track are usually better), and doing everything in a relaxed and unconventional style.
We go to more museums and archaeological sites than any other tour, but we also go to more mountain villages and unknown islands.
Our hotels are usually 4-star; more importantly, they are family-run, small and centrally located, with a distinctive ambience and atmosphere.
Our restaurants are the best in Greece and Turkey; like the hotels, they're family-run and they're where all the locals go when they want the best food and prices.
You don't have to pay for your tour until you arrive, and you can stay for as many days as you wish — does any other tour do that?
We usually don't leave very early, and we often stay up quite late — but this is what happens when every day is an unique experience you don't want to end.

Have you been surfing the internet looking for a reliable and interesting source of information on Greece?  I've found one that actually describes the Greece I have known for over 30 years.
    It's Matt Barrett's Greece Travel Guide:  www.greektravel.com.
Check it out, especially if you can't make a Sporades Tour and will be going to Greece on your own.

MONEY TIPS:  How to save your dwindling dollars:

Here's how to change your dollars for euros (Greece) or lira (Turkey):
1.  Don't change money outside the country you're going to; you'll always lose.
2.  Use your ATM card, at machines (they're everywhere) and banks.  You'll get the international bank rate, which is the best.
3.  If you change cash or travelers' checks, your exchange rate will not be as good and you'll have to pay a bank commission.
4.  Use an plain ATM card without a Visa or Mastercard imprint.  For the last year or two, a small percentage charge has been added to transactions using a debit card with an imprint.

Beycan gulet

Of the dozens of private yachts I've used over the years to explore the Turquoise Coast of Turkey, my favorite is Captain Fethi's gulet Beycan.  The website is beycanyacht.com.
